Bodegas

Atlanta has its rolling stores, Italy its tabacchi, and Tokyo its konbini. New York has the bodega, and few places encapsulate New York City life better than the neighborhood bodega.

Once omnipresent fixtures peppered throughout city streets, bodegas are becoming increasingly endangered as global chains expand their footprint and online delivery options offering sterile convenience extend their reach. Those that remain face threats of eviction from impossibly high rents, changing demographics from hyper-gentrification, and lack of government action in supporting small businesses.
